Happy New Year!

Well, it’s the end of 2019 and the end of another decade.  Hard to believe this year has gone by so fast and really can’t believe we are crossing into a new decade.  What a ride it has been.  So much has happened in this last year and so much on the plate for the next year.  Been sitting here today thinking over all that has happened over this last year and decade.  I truly have a lot to be thankful for and I encouraged for what lies ahead.

This last year has been insane, to say the least.  I spent about eight months on the road for work this year.  Two separate trips of two months each, which really added to the time away. One trip to California for some training and a trip out of the country for an exercise.  At the same time, Chris and I finally pulled the trigger to start out on this adventure we are calling Old Breed Outdoors.  I was selected for promotion to the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant, the highest enlisted rank in the Marine Corps.  Yes, there is a Sergeant Major but it’s the same pay grade just a different path.  I won’t go into that here.  Along with my selection, Chris too was selected for promotion and will be promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant in the coming months.  It’s been a year of sacrifice but truly a year of blessings as well.

The future is looking exciting for both Chris and I.  Along with our selections to promotion comes moves for both of us.  I will be leaving the end of January 2020 for a new assignment at the Pentagon and Chris will be headed to Southern California at the beginning of February.  No doubt there will be some great professional experiences in our future with these new assignments.  The only downside is the fact that he and I and our families will be on opposite coasts.  Don’t worry we will still be putting in lots of work on our content regardless.  Plus we will be sure to get the families together as much as we can.  That’s the beauty of our friendship both between him and me and our families.

We are coming up on our one year anniversary of Old Breed Outdoors.  I really owe it to Chris for his tenacity in getting us going on this adventure.  I am so glad we took the leap and it has been so much fun.  I have been the social media wizard and really trying to grind out social media content.  Funny thing is that before this I was really not involved in social media.  Heck, I didn’t even know how to use Instagram.  It’s been amazing how much positive feedback we’ve received in that world.  So grateful for all the followers we have on both Facebook and Instagram.  You all have been amazing.  Hopefully, we can continue to grow and get better and better at providing our followers with great content.

This past summer we finally got our YouTube channel off the ground.  Man what an adventure that has been.  Fortunately for Chris and me, my wife knows her way around a camera and video editing from the work she does.  She really helped us in figuring out how to do all the video content and teaching me how to edit.  I look at the videos we have going up now and compare them to those we did in the beginning and it’s like night and day.  Thanks, babe for all the help.  I really can’t want for next year.  We have a lot of plans for some great content.  Chris has really ground it out this year on the content and we wouldn’t be anywhere with the channel if it wasn’t for all he has done.  My schedule did not allow for me to get out like I wish I could have.  Next year there will be much more content from my side.

The hunting this year was pretty good.  Chris got a nice doe, which was his first deer in 11 years.  It was such a blessing for him to get that deer before he heads west.  Chris was also pretty active with the feral hogs and bagged several.  For myself, I was accused of having a golden horseshoe with the two bucks I shot.  I just got lucky being in the right place at the right time is all.  Then there was our Kansas trip.  We didn’t bring back any meat but man was that a great trip.  Our first out of state hunt big game hunt and was truly an amazing experience.  So grateful for the opportunity.

So here we are.  The end of another year and a decade in the books.  We are really looking forward to what the future holds for us and our families as well as where we can take Old Breed Outdoors.  Thank you all for your support.  Spread the word.  Get all your friends and family on board and continue to follow along on the adventure.  Happy New Year!
